Apostille from Illinois
In the U.S. state of Illinois, Apostilles are issued under the Hague Apostille Convention of 1961 by the Office of the Illinois Secretary of State. The Secretary of State’s Index Department – Certification Unit, located in Springfield, serves as the sole Competent Authority authorized to affix Apostilles on Illinois public documents. Eligible documents include certified copies of birth, marriage, and death certificates (once certified by the appropriate county or state vital records office), notarized documents, court judgments, educational records, and other official papers originating in Illinois. By issuing the Apostille, the Secretary of State authenticates signatures, seals, or stamps for recognition in all Hague Convention member states.
